What BearingPulse stores
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Account details — your email address, display name, and password (stored only as a secure hash, never in readable form) | To sign you in and keep your journey attached to you rather than to one phone |
| Check-ins — the position of each mark on the compass, its date and time, and any optional note you write | This is the app: your readings, your trail, and your pattern insights |
| Account settings — personal or team account, which team you belong to, your sharing choice, and whether you've seen the tutorial | To apply your sharing decision and skip the intro on repeat visits |
Check-ins are kept on your device so the app works offline, and synced to your own private account so they survive a lost or replaced phone.
We do not collect location, contacts, health data, device identifiers for advertising, or any behavioural tracking. The app contains no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics.
Who can see your check-ins
By default: only you. If you join a team, you choose one of three settings, and you can change it at any time:
| Setting | What your team owner sees |
|---|---|
| Private (the default) | Nothing at all — not your check-ins, not your notes, not even whether you've checked in |
| Anonymous | Your bearings counted into a team-wide total, with no name, no dates, and no notes. This view stays completely empty unless at least five teammates are sharing, so small numbers can't identify anyone |
| Identified | Your individual check-ins, including their dates and any notes you wrote on them |
Switching back to Private hides everything again immediately, including check-ins you shared in the past. Leaving a team also resets your sharing to Private. These rules are enforced inside our database itself, not merely in the app's screens.
A team owner is whoever created the team — typically a leader inside your own organization, not BearingPulse. Joining a team is always your action: it requires a team code, and it never turns on sharing by itself.
Deleting your data
- A single check-in: delete it from your history in the Journey tab.
- Everything: "Delete all check-ins permanently" erases your entire history from both your device and our servers. This cannot be undone, and deleted check-ins do not come back on other devices.
- Your whole account: Settings → "Delete my account" removes your login, your profile, and every check-in and note. If you own a team, the team is removed and its members are released and set back to Private — their own check-ins are untouched. This is immediate and cannot be undone. You can also email hello@bearingpulse.com if you'd rather we do it.
"Start fresh" is deliberately not a deletion: it clears the compass trail and pattern insights so the view isn't crowded, while keeping your history intact.
Who processes data on our behalf
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles sign-in. Your account details and check-ins are stored there.
- Cloudflare — serves this website and may process standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect it.
These providers process data only to run the service for us. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and we do not share your check-ins with your employer except through the sharing settings you choose yourself.
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts.
Your rights
You can access your data in the app at any time, correct your display name, delete individual check-ins or everything, and withdraw sharing consent instantly. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request a copy of your data or object to processing — email hello@bearingpulse.com and we'll help.
A note on workplace use
BearingPulse is designed as a personal reflection tool, not a monitoring system. Even where an organization encourages its use, sharing remains an individual choice, anonymous means anonymous, and no view exists that shows a leader who checked in or how often. If you're ever asked to prove your check-ins to someone, that request is coming from a person, not from the product.
Children's privacy
BearingPulse is intended for working adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, contact us at hello@bearingpulse.com and we will delete it and its data promptly.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to check-ins is restricted at the database level so that a request can only ever return rows you're entitled to see. No system is perfectly secure, but we design the privacy rules to fail closed — showing nothing rather than too much.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect. Material changes to sharing or data handling will also be surfaced in the app.
